‘Gallant Sons’ Exhibition in Ballina Library

On Sunday 11th November there will be a series of events in Ballina to mark the centenary of the Armistice which saw the end of the 1st World War. To mark the occasion, Ballina Library will host the National Library of Ireland’s ‘Gallant Sons’ Exhibition which uses some of the N.L.I’s documents to explore the experiences of Irish soldiers who fought in the war. The exhibition also tells the stories of some of the families who were left behind: their accounts of their own experiences bring home the huge human cost of the war and tell us something about life in Ireland between 1914 and 1918. The exhibition will be also feature items from the Jackie Clarke Collection who have collaborated with the library on the exhibition and will also feature an honour roll of the soldiers from the Ballina area who died in the 1st World War. The exhibition will be open on Sunday 11th from 2pm to 5pm and after that will run during library opening hours until the end of November. Material from the Jackie Clarke Collection will also be on display, chronicling the events of World War One.
